Meet Caitlin

I’m a web designer and developer from Traverse City, Michigan. You can usually find me outside exploring trails with my partner, snow or shine!

I have a strong interest in both design and coding. I love finding new technology or a new way of doing things in every project I create. I’ve had a passion for art from a young age, and since I discovered how fun coding can be, it seemed like I was made to become a web designer. I like to walk and hike, read, knit, sew, and learn more about design and development in my free time.

My background

My venture into web development started in high school during my sophomore year, 2013-2014. They offered a web design class taught by the Geometry teacher – it was a small town, okay? I learned basic HTML and CSS and created websites using Weebly. There were less than 10 people in that class and it turned out to be one of my favorite classes.

During my junior and senior years in high school, I attended the Traverse Bay Area Career-Tech Center in the Web & Game Programming program. There I learned HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and Python. I used MIT’s Scratch app to create some games, too. I also had an internship with a local web company where I learned Bootstrap and how to use Photoshop to make wireframes.

After high school, I attended Northwestern Michigan College from 2016 to 2019 and completed my Certificate of Achievement for Web Development III. There I learned HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, C#, .NET, ASP.NET, MySQL, 2-D Design, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, Muse, and Animate.

My experience

While in the last semester of college, I landed an internship at Pro Web Marketing, a web development and hosting firm, which was where I had an internship back in high school. I worked there full time for nearly three years, and have been continuing to develop my skills in both design and development. I have had the opportunity to become a WordPress developer and work on both small business sites and large eCommerce sites built with WooCommerce. I have also designed a few logos, created a brochure, and designed many social media and print ads for both the company and our clients.
